The Journey - January 2024
A newsletter around learnings, experiences, creations and discoveries.
Hi all,
Wishing you all a blessed 2024. Here is what I’ve encountered and what has touched me over this new year - thanks for reading and hope you enjoy!
Why you’re getting this: I'm Gui Perdrix and this is my newsletter where I share life learnings, musical creations, coliving discoveries and anything that caught my attention. You can unsubscribe or refer to a friend below.
The one talk that means it all to me
To open the year, let me share with you the one most read and listened words that shaped my perspectives on perception of self and our relationship to life.
It’s a 15min talk by novelist David Foster Wallace, yet instead of going into fiction (like he usually does), Wallace shines light on how our most basic beliefs often turn out to be totally wrong, and how the hardest part of all decisions is not which decision to make, but knowing from where your decision-making comes from.
Intelligence, ultimatelly, has more to do with the capacity for attention than the ability to reason. Enjoy “This is Water” - the one talk that I listen to on average once a month, just to remind myself that there is no such thing as a capital T truth:
Three videos that captured my attention
For the first time ever, I dived into the passion of football (thanks to my friend Thomas for an evening filled with epic Youtube docus!) and was hooked to the incredible story of the Turkish footbal club Trabzonspor.
The symbolism and power that some people experience in this document is beyond wordly explanation.
Also checked out a “classic” which I’ve actually personally not seen before: Sam Altman’s Y Combinator talk.
Altaman currently leads the software company ChatGPT but used to run San Francisco’s most successful tech accelerator. His learnings are gold - and often so true but simple:
“Rule #1: Built products that are so good that people talk to others about them.”
Finally, a stunning experience, a TED “talk” by a dear friend (who I love to play with at DJ sets) about harnessing the power of jamming - a 10-minute masterclass on how listen, allow yourself to make mistakes, and flow:

My favorite tech discoveries
What about traveling through time and space in the history of music? I got blown away when discovering musicmap.info - which shows you how each genra and sub-genra influenced each other over time.
And another really cool website: Groundnews - a news platform showing you where the news come from, political affiliations, and comparing it with other media outlets. Genius!
Also loved discovering YourTeacher.Ai - a platform where conversational AI helps you practice a foreigner language. Created by a Youtuber polyglot who loves learning by speaking - check it out!
Finally, for those who have a Mac, try to Arc browser - it’s simply stunning.
New Club Nature mix is out!
This time, we hosted a special in-house edition with DJ MVRIUS!
As always, enjoy the beats 🙃
Read the Dice Man: where psychology meets real life decisions
My brother offered me this book. I opened it - and 72h later had completely devored it.
The concept is simple: a therapist decides to live his life by letting the dice decide on his actions. He is the one writing down the potential actions he will take, but it’s the dice who decides.
This lets him to become the dice man: a person whose habits have been changed with every dice decision, whose patterns have dissolved, and whose only refuge lies in letting the dice chose which part of himself gets to respond today.
My favorite techno artist of 2023
And the title goes to someone I discovered randomly, shazaming his song that was the perfect mixture between tribal techno and ethnic songs: Egyptian producer Mostafa Ryad. Check him out - my favorite song: CD3.
I hope you enjoyed this Journey! If you found it insightful, please send it to one or two friends of yours who would appreciate it 🙏
Wishing you a great end of the month,
Gui
