The Journey - November 13th, 2023
A newsletter around learnings, experiences, creations and discoveries.
Hi all,
It’s been a while. A lot has happened - and a lot worth sharing!
Why you’re getting this: I'm Gui Perdrix and this is my newsletter where I share life learnings, musical creations, coliving discoveries and anything that caught my attention. You can unsubscribe below (I won’t be offended).
Let’s Start With A Piece Of Hope.
Like everyone else, I was thrown off by the Israeli-Gaza conflict, and wanted to share one of the videos that I wish the world could see more of. It's a masterpiece of human dynamics and psychology: the video is about Tony Robbins' intervention on the day of 9/11 - making two completely different sides understand that their core needs are the same, and that through deeper listening both sides can turn history upside down. In it, he manages to bring a Jew and an Arab on stage, walks them through their beliefs and desires, and helps them make peace after years of animosity. In short: peace is possible, but it requires inner peace. Or, in other words: it takes two to align, and alignment can’t be found in differences. This two-hour video (yikes!) is a masterclass in coaching and understanding inner personal patterns.
How To Talk To The “Opposite” Site
Peter McIndoe impersonated for three years the leader of the 'Birds Aren’t Real' movement, claiming that birds were extinguished by the American government and replaced with flying surveillance engines. In this TED Talk, he shares what it was like to be in a conspiracionist's shoes - and how our ways of having discussions need to evolve if we want to bring two truly differently believing sides together.
"What if we first thought about what them vulnerable to this information in the first place? What might they be getting out of this that they're not getting out of their every-day lives?"
Some Personal Realizations
The Temple philosophy: make your home a safe space that encourages good habit, flow, and personal flourishing (in self and in relationships).
Inner curiosity is the best shortcut to connect with reality.
The best type of content is the one that is not for its own sake.
Incredible Overview of America’s Political And Financial History.
Incredible 3-part series by Arte on the history of American capitalism and political ideals: from Carnegie's 19th-century 'Gospel of Wealth' declaration to Roosevelt's 1930s New Deal, Reagan's Wall Street deregulation in the 80s, to today's culture of philanthropy. A must-watch to understand the historical political, financial, and industrial forces that have been shaping the country.
Also available in French and German.
The Best Movie I’ve Seen This Year.
On healing human relationships through restorative justice. Just watch.
On The Evolution of Social Clubs.
"I’ve been having more and more discussions with people who are interested in opening social clubs. Personally, I’m a huge fan of the idea - it’s like coliving, just without the hassle of managing beds. Some of my favorites include Karisma in Barcelona, which is nailing it after pivoting from pop-up co-living retreats to the social club model; and Yayem, one of Europe’s original social club startups, is now expanding to a 'lifestyle companion' model with curated events in major international cities, member-matching functionalities, access to physical hubs, and IRL events.
Book I’m Reading.
"Eckhart Tolle? Oh yeah, I've read him."
That's what my ego thought… until I actually read him 😆
This book is a great reminder of what makes us human, and gives you an overview of self-sabotaging patterns that we all inhibit yet can all work on.
Mix I’m Listening To (On Repeat)
Let’s see if you will, too 😏
